The Venture High School science team approaches science instruction, not simply as subjects to learn, but as powerful ways of understanding and responding to the world and what lies beyond it.  Key aspects of this approach include:
  • encouraging scientific curiosity;
  • building strong scientific literacy that includes the ability to both read science and write for scientific purposes;
  • using a wide variety of study techniques (i.e., field studies as well as labs);
  • using scientific knowledge to powerfully inform debates about issue and challenges we face;
  • helping students to see how deep understanding of science can be used to address real world problems (such as world hunger, energy needs, ecosystem degradation, etc.); and
  • helping students to begin themselves using scientific knowledge to address real problems and challenges.
Building on this foundation, students are encouraged to recognize the value and application of science to all interests and areas of life.
