Weekly Update for January 27-31
Reading
This week's focus was on decoding difficult words by breaking them into syllable chunks and noticing each syllable type. Ask your child to show you their decoding skills. Students continue to Dyad read, practice fluency, and improve vocabulary. This week's assigned vocabulary terms were; sufficient and represent. The book club group is excited to read "Dead End In Norvelt".
Keep up the terrific reading out loud every night!
Language Arts
*New*
We began recording daily work and homework. This tracking sheet is due back the following Monday with a parent signature.
We are underway drafting a persuasive paper about school uniforms. Students have pieced together 3 body paragraphs, each with a different yet persuasive reason to require/not require school uniforms. A template for composing these paragraphs can be found here. After the three paragraphs have been formed students typed them into the Google Classroom assignment labeled, "Should School Uniforms Be Required?" Then they were instructed to add an introduction and conclusion to end with a complete 5 paragraph drafted persuasive paper.
Expedition
We have dabbled into many events that have led to uniting our nation through transportation. This expedition requires a lot of reading and writing. I'm so excited to teach them all about the building of the transcontinental railroad.
