Weekly Update for February 25-March 1

Students know r-controlled syllables. They are becoming experts at labeling syllables and recognizing word chunks, so they can decode challenging words.

Language Arts

Students are in the process of finishing a preliminary persuasive paper on "Pets in the Classroom". They have been very excited to learn the process of persuasion and argumentative writing. In addition, their topic choice has been extremely motivating!

Our current focus is Native American tribes of Utah. We've learned about the Shoshone, Ute, Navajo, Goshute, and Paiute tribes. With this information we are creating a high quality map with symbols that reflect each tribe. We have finished reading Naya Nuki which is about a Shoshone girl who is taken captive, escapes, and finds her way back to her tribe.
