Weekly Update for January 13-17

Middle of year reading assessments have been completed and shared with students. Each student is tracking their progress and has set an end of year goal. Steps to meet our goal have also been established. Most students have made a commitment to read out loud each night.

Language Arts

Students are excited to learn about persuasive writing. After critiquing two opposing persuasive papers we discussed persuasion techniques such as using evidence, facts, rhetorical questions, examples, or discrediting an opposing claim. We played a game using these techniques to persuade our classmates.

Spelling next week will be done in class and students will choose their own spelling words. We will not be using Spelling City.

We finished up testing minerals and will begin learning about the Transcontinental Railroad.
